A
'Demo Mode' message appears; also, messages occur about about Printing
and Saving not being allowed in Demo Mode
Reason
DQI TOOLBOX
has not located a DQI security key ('dongle').
Cure
If a DQI dongle is present, please check
that it is correctly inserted into the computer's parallel printer port
(usually LPT1:) or, if your computer is connected to a network, please
check the DQI TOOLBOX network installation
instructions for details of how to make it 'visible' to the network. If
you do not have a DQI dongle, please contact
DQI Customer Services .
After
first installing DQI TOOLBOX, an error such
as 'Application Terminated' occurs when trying to run it
Reason
An installation diskette is probably faulty.
Cure
Please try re-installing DQI TOOLBOX.
If this does not remedy the problem, please contact
DQI Customer Services for a replacement set of diskettes.
It
is impossible to set the printer margins correctly, or only when the printed
form boxes overlap with text
Reason
The printer hardware settings or the paper
size might be incorrect.
Cure
It is possible that your printer has switches
to select the size of paper being used (e.g. A4). Please make sure
that the switches have been set accordingly. DQI TOOLBOX
has been optimised for A4 paper (210 x 297 mm); some experimentation with
Printer
Set-Up and the switches might be necessary when using other formats,
e.g.
U.S. Letter or Legal.
The
Directory
of Files... should be in alphabetical or date order but isn't, and
an error message flashes up when the Directory of Files... first
appears on the screen
Reason
The indexing file for the list has become
damaged.
Cure
The indexing file can safely be deleted,
which will prompt DQI TOOLBOX to build a new
one next time it is started. To delete the indexing file, exit from DQI
TOOLBOX
to the 'DOS prompt' (e.g. C:\>) and type DEL \DQI\SETUP3.CDX
When
accessing the diskette drive (usually A: or B:) a message such as ABORT,
RETRY OR FAIL? appears
Reason
There is no diskette in the drive, or
it is unformatted (new) or damaged.
Cure
If no diskette is present, please insert
it and type R. To 'escape' from the message, typing A will
usually return you to the point prior to the message appearing. If the
message recurs immediately, try F. If it still recurs (which should
only happen when the file selection box containing the drive selection
pop-up is visible), it should be possible to 'click' the drive selection
pop-up and change it to the letter of a different drive (e.g. C:)
instead.
If the diskette is unformatted, which is
frequently the case when using a brand new one, it is first necessary to
format it before use. The procedure is described in Help.
If the diskette is damaged, and contains
important data, it might be possible to recover some or all of the information
using a utility such as NortonTM; alternatively, please send
it to DQI Customer Services for attention.
When
first installing DQI TOOLBOX, an error occurs when reading one of the diskettes
Reason
The diskette is faulty, or incompatible
with the diskette drive.
Cure
Please contact
DQI Customer Services for a replacement set of diskettes. The diskettes
normally supplied are the 3·5 inch 'high density' (1·44 Mb)
type. If your diskette drive is a 'low density' (720 kb) or 5·25
inch type, please mention this so that the correct diskettes can be supplied.
When
operating Help, a 'Too many Help topics' message appears
Reason
The memory available to DQI TOOLBOX
is low.
Cure
When
starting DQI TOOLBOX, a message 'Checking security
status...' appears and remains for a few minutes
Reason
DQI TOOLBOX
has detected that your computer is on a network, and has not found a DQI
security key ('dongle') plugged into the computer's parallel printer port
(usually LPT1:). It is searching the network to see whether a DQI dongle
is connected to another computer; this can take a few minutes.
Cure
If no computer on the network has a DQI
dongle, the package will run in 'Demo Mode' when searching is finished.
If a DQI dongle is present but is not being detected, please check the
DQI
TOOLBOX
network installation instructions for details of how to make it 'visible'
to the network. If you do not have a DQI dongle, please contact
DQI Customer Services .
When
trying to open a file, an error message such as MEMO FILE INVALID flashes
up instead
Reason
Each DQI file has two parts with suffices
.DBF and .FPT; the .FPT part, which contains much of the form information,
is missing or damaged.
Cure
If you have just copied the file from
one place to another outside DQI TOOLBOX (e.g.
using COPY at the 'DOS prompt', or using File Manager in WindowsTM),
the .FPT part might have been overlooked. Please make sure that you have
copied both parts of the file together.
If incomplete copying (or inadvertent deletion)
is not the cause of the problem, the file is damaged. It can usually be
repaired (and some, but probably not all, of the lost information can usually
be recovered). Please copy both parts of it (both the .DBF and the .FPT
parts) onto a diskette and send it to DQI Customer Services for attention.
