Getting to Inverness

There are plenty of options when it comes to travelling to the Highland capital. Fly to Inverness Airport from a number of destinations across the UK and Europe or take the train with Scotrail or the luxury Caledonian Sleeper overnight. If travelling by road from the south, the A9 is the main route, connecting the city with Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and many other towns. There are good coach links to Inverness as well. Whichever way you choose, it's a pretty scenic journey!

Getting to the Isle of Skye

From the mainland, there are three route options for getting to Skye:

• A Caledonian MacBrayne ferry (Mallaig to Skye) runs daily from the port of Mallaig in the west Highlands to Armadale in Sleat on the south of Skye. Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is 5 minutes (2·2 miles) drive from Armadale. You can get to Mallaig by road or train.
• The Skye Bridge is a road bridge spanning Loch Alsh between the mainland village of Kyle of Lochalsh which is connected to Scotland's rail network, and Kyleakin on Skye. Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is 27 minutes (19·0 miles) drive from Kyleakin. Buses go directly from Glasgow to Skye and from Inverness to Skye, too.
• The privately-operated Glenelg ferry connects Glenelg on the mainland with Kylerhea on Skye. Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is 37 minutes (21·7 miles) drive from Kylerhea.
